The roots of the water hyacinths provide a hiding place for baby fish and create spawning areas for the fish. This floating plant absorbs nutrients from the water and provides excellent filtration, helping to prevent algae.Water Hyacinth perform best in full sun, but will tolerate part shade. Water temperatures need to be 60 to 65 degrees when adding them to your pond in the spring. They will spread during the warm summer months and you can thin them out by simply netting some out of the water garden. They make great compost for your flower beds and vegetable garden as the roots and leaves are full of nutrients. The water hyacinth floating plant will not survive winter in colder climates. Pond owners replace them annually, for their natural ability to help keep pond water clear and fight algae. Water Hyacinths are easy to grow and are also a good choice for container water gardens.
